It's best for the orthodontist to see children by age 7 to advise if orthodontic treatment is required and if it is the best time for that patient to be treated. The first permanent teeth have begun to erupt and several specific problems can occur at this time. Although it is usually best to wait for eruption of the majority of permanent teeth, treatment at this young age can be useful to prevent problems or habits that may affect facial growth, or dental development.
