One Local Orthodontist - One Convenient Office Location

We have one office location and one orthodontist. This allows Dr. West to spend more time with you - and also to be available for the rare emergency visit. Dr. West is completely dedicated to the local community and is the only full time orthodontist in Truckee, CA.

All of the equipment and facilities at West Orthodontics are maintained in the best of conditions with a rigorous maintenance schedule. Our patients can be assured that we follow all OSHA guidelines for sterilization techniques and test our equipment regularly to adhere to the strictest of protocols. We pride ourselves on maintaining the highest standard of care for you.

In addition, every single member of our team holds an active license and maintains that license with annual continuing education courses. This allows us to stay on top of the most current and up to date information regarding your treatment and overall health.

Complimentary Initial Exam

Every patient gets a complimentary comprehensive exam on their initial visit. We may take a panoramic x-ray of your dentition, in order to assess you or your child's growth and development. The doctor then personally discusses his findings with you and if needed, your proposed treatment plan will be discussed with you by our treatment coordinator, Therese.

State of the Art Technology

  • "Smart Clip" - Self Ligating Brackets
    In the past, orthodontists would use heavy forces to move the teeth. Today in orthodontics we utilize light forces and low friction to move teeth faster and more gently than ever before. The results are outstanding. The patients in our office benefit from our use of these latest technologies in the following ways:

    • Treatment is more gentle than in the past- your teeth don't get as sore!
    • Treatment time can be much shorter because your teeth are moving more quickly
    • Appointments are typically 4-6 weeks or more apart - this means you miss less school!
    • Because self ligating brackets don't need elastic ties, the brackets appear smaller on your teeth and are easier to keep clean
    • These brackets also come in a clear version for those who desire a more aesthetic look
  • Invisalign Treatment For patients who are good candidates, we offer Invisalign treatment. Invisalign is a way to straighten your teeth without bands, brackets, or wires. By using a series of clear, removable aligners, it is possible to straighten your teeth right before your eyes! Dr. West will check your progression every six weeks and give you your new aligners. The average treatment time is about a year, and because the aligners are removable, you can continue to eat your favorite foods as well as brush and floss normally to keep your gums and teeth healthy.

  • Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment The American Association of Orthodontics recommends your child's first orthodontic exam by age 7. The reason for this is that some orthodontic conditions can be more easily corrected early on and this can save you from a more invasive treatment later. An example of this would be a habit appliance that prevents a child from continuing to suck their thumb. Another example would be a palatal expander to correctly position the upper arch of teeth so that they can erupt into the correct place.

  • Replacement Retainers We offer replacement retainers for anyone who has lost or broken theirs. In addition, if you have never had orthodontic treatment, but want to prevent your teeth from getting crowded with time, our clear plastic retainers can hold them in place. We know how important it is to maintain a stable dentition, and we want to help you achieve this important goal.

  • Indirect Bonding We utilize a brand new indirect bonding technique which allows for your braces to be put on all at once, with no discomfort. This patient friendly technique makes the appointment to get your braces on much shorter than in the past.

  • OrthoCad - Digital Patient Models This computer imaging program lets us create digital 3D images of your teeth from which Dr. West can more effectively diagnose and treatment plan your case.

  • Indirect Digital X-Ray Imaging We care about your overall health, and that is why we have an indirect digital x-ray machine, which uses 80% less radiation than traditional radiographic machines and provides us with sharper and more detailed images.

  • Dolphin Imaging and Practice Management Software We have upgraded our systems to an almost completely "paperless" practice that utilizes the most superior imaging and practice management software available on the market. At West Orthodontics, we are very lucky to have Saira, a registered dental hygienist, on staff. Not just Saira, but our entire team, cares greatly about your oral hygiene and home care habits before, during, and after treatment with us. This is why, if you are a new patient receiving full comprehensive treatment (braces), you will receive a complimentary Philips Sonicare Extreme toothbrush. We believe it is that important! Saira and Debi will monitor your hygiene carefully and make suggestions when necessary. In partnership with you, we can ensure that your treatment will produce a beautiful result! Final Retainers

When our patients get their braces off, they all will receive two sets of retainers. The first set are invisible retainers, made out of a clear plastic that is form fitted to cover the teeth. The second set are traditional, more durable, plastic and metal retainers. Both sets of these retainers are custom designed to fit only your beautiful new smile!
